Faith Restored

Faith Restored

Speechless

The last couple of days the blogging world has showed me how close we really all are. How in some way or another we are all connected. Its amazing really.

I have gotten almost 40 donations equaling over $800.00, nearly $100.00 worth of Amazon gift certificates, offers to send my kids gifts, trackbacks galore, posts by bloggers I dont even know asking for help for me and over 400 emails from well wishers willing to help a fellow human being who just happened to lose her way briefly from as close as the next town over from me to as far off as Israel, Sweden, France and Australia. I am stunned, humbled and speechless to say the least.

Never did I expect this. Not even a fraction of this. I thought maybe someone somewhere would reach under their sofa cushions and find a couple bucks and send them my way. I have been in tears for two days and my stomache has been in knots. Not from being lost or hopeless but from being overwhelmed with the kindness you all have showed me and my kids. I feel a weight lifted off of my shoulders for the first time in many weeks. I cant tell you off hand how I will use the money or gift certificates. I will guarantee, however, that it goes to good use. My monthly bills will now be paid on time thanks to you all. I can give my daughter a wonderful birthday thanks to your donations and the gifts some of you have offered to send her. I can even treat my kids to ice cream off the Good Humor ice cream truck when it comes around. You all have done so much that words cannot express what I am feeling. With each email wishing me luck, to ones asking if they can send gifts, to notifications of donations you all have truly made me realize how kind people like myself do still exist. If the rolls were reversed and it was any of you in need I would be the first digging thru my kids clothes and toys to send things to your children. If you needed money and I had it you'd be the first to get it.

You all are amazing. I dont want to play favorites but Genuine went above and beyond just a friend asking for help for another friend. Because of him I can sleep a little more comfortably tonight. I am eternally grateful to you, Genuine and to all of you.

I have been absolutely overwhelmed with your emails (I love them but they were so unexpected. I am trying my hardest to get back to you all quickly) that you have to please forgive me if I havent gotten back to you to answer your questions or to thank you for your donations and/or well wishes. I will. I promise.

With that said I need to get some very needed sleep. I was up until 6 a.m. yesterday morning (believe it or not) answering all of your emails. Its now damn near 3 a.m. and I am still working on answering you all. I dont mind, trust me, but I am much more useful to you all with some sleep in me.

I will post a more personal thank you to you all tomorrow. I was going to wait the extra day to get caught up and then post but I really did want to get out here now and let you all know how much I appreciate everything you are doing. As Genuine said on his blog earlier (forgive me if I dont get it word for word) I am not out of the woods yet but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you all for everything you have said, done, sent or will send. You are all truly amazing people. For the first time in a very, very long time I dont feel so alone.

I will never forget any of your kindness towards my kids and myself. Never.

I Don't Usually Do This...

So please bear with me. Ro is a single parent of 3 children, and a survivor of domestic abuse. She escaped the hell of a marriage with a few clothes, toys, and her 3 children to start a new life for herself. After all of that, she was just laid off from her job.

She's applied for Government assistance in the meantime, but thanks to the bureaucracy that plagues our administration, help is a mere 4 - 8 weeks away.

She has gone to the Food Bank. She has gone to Red Cross. She's at her end.

In this world, there are few things we can do that make a difference to people, especially people we don't know. A cup of coffee for a homeless person in line behind us with only a few dimes to his name, a donation to the homeless shelter or Domestic Abuse Sanctuary, saving the life of an abandoned animal.

If you find it in your heart to help this lovely woman, please do so. Let your spirit of love and compassion overrule your edgy skepticism of today's modern world.

You will be rewarded ten-fold in ways you can never imagine.

Creepy Thin Men

So, the phone calls begin.

My mother received a phone call at home by a man asking for me. Obviously, I don’t live there. She told him I wasn’t there and he said he would call back. She called and gave me the number from caller ID.

So I returned the call, to find that “Scott” wanted to talk about my Public Forum letter. He asked about the reasons for it, so I gave it to him, pretty self-explanatory. He asked me about the other pastors from other churches making statements. I clarified and told him there was a difference in a Pastor giving his/her opinion and a Church issuing an official statement when it directly ties in with the political climate. I also encouraged him to write a rebuttal to my letter and send it into the paper, as everyone deserves a well-rounded view.

Then he said, “By the way, I just want you to know that I have never been told how to vote.”

Really?

So, I looked it up.

First Presidency Issues Statement on Marriage
7 July 2004

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement today. This is a statement of principle in anticipation of the expected debate over same-gender marriage. It is not an endorsement of any specific amendment.

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints favors a constitutional amendment preserving marriage as the lawful union of a man and a woman."

Now, what from that official statement, from their official site, is supposed to make me believe that they are not telling their members how to vote? Oh, the line that reads that they don’t support any specific amendment? C’mon, I was born, but I wasn’t born yesterday.

If the statement said that they do not support same-sex relationships, fine. But they specifically stated that they “favor a constitutional amendment.” That’s skating a very, very thin line.

Pissin' off the People in Price.

Yup. I'm in the paper again. This time, it's about the LDS Church.

I'm going straight to hell. Save me a seat?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LORENE!!

Hope your day is full of laughter and love. They day you were born into the world is a day to celebrate!!

Heartbreaking Evening

Heartbreaking Evening

I met my new Primary Care Doctor last night, and she is FABULOUS! She’s in her 40’s and could very well be “family”, but I am not sure. She took care of all my meds without blinking, referred me to the top back specialist at the U for a consultation, and we went over a treatment plan together. She told me I am doing great on medication for pain management and doesn’t have any problem whatsoever prescribing me pain medication or muscle relaxers. I felt comfortable enough with her to make an official physical appointment including breast exam, pap, the whole nine yards. She wants me to get another mammogram (oh, dear Lord). She’s also very excited about the prospect of assisting me and Lindi as we think about insemination and pregnancy. I LOVE her!

After my appointment, Lindi, Sarah and I along with Lindi’s mom, trekked out to Ruth’s Diner up the canyon for our monthly dinner with “The Girls”, a group of ladies who have been friends since Lindi was a baby. Usually, there is about 14 of us, but last night was cozy with 8, and we enjoyed our meal in the outdoors. I had crusted chicken over linguine (their version of chicken parmesan), Lindi had their enchilada platter and Sarah noshed on a beautiful chicken caesar salad.

Afterward, we headed home, and I headed to the duplex next door to collect Dori. If you’ll recall, Dori is the momma kitty to our precious Minni, and who I placed with our next-next-door neighbors. Only problem was, they didn’t tell me they had two LARGE dogs until Dori had been there a week and was living on the water heater. I’ve been trying to collect her from them for the past week, but they are never home, so I finally called and let them know I would be taking her last night to isolate her before I took her in to be fixed. Okay, so it was a little bit of a white lie, she didn’t need to be isolated, but I wanted to get my hands on her. Her roommate told me she had an abscess on her neck and had worms. Worms? Minni didn’t have worms. She also told me she hasn’t been gaining weight, then turned around and told me she’s got a pot gut. WTF?

Anywho, it was time Dori came home with me. I snatched her up and took a look at the “abscess” and, as it turns out, it was a puncture wound about the size of a quarter! I am certain it was from the dogs. She was thin and mangy and scared out of her mind. I looked in and saw that they had been feeding her kitten food, which may be the culprit of her stomach bloating and her not gaining weight.

We rushed her to the Cottonwood Pet ER and were pleased to find my favorite vet of all time, Dr Scott Matheson, was working the ER. Dr. Matheson has helped me put down two of my families dogs, and he is the kindest man on the planet. He handled Dori wonderfully, prescribed her antibiotics (penicillin for kitties), cleaned the wound, de-wormed her, and reassured the foster mommies that she would be okay. His vet assistant, Shanna, was an expert at handling Dori. She clipped her claws before we had Dori swallow the de-worming pill, which left me with marks up and down my arms. Shanna handled Dori with the hands of an expert. I was very impressed. Dori’s neck was shaved and they took a good look at the wound and said it would heal nicely.

We came home around midnight and Dori was right at home, talking to us, curling up between Lindi’s feet to sleep. I feel so horrible that this happened to her and I am trying t stave my feelings of tremendous guilt that I placed her with those people. I figured the ER visit was my karma repayment, and I need to do everything I can to do right by this precious soul. Even as early as this morning, her coat was shiny, she was purring and happily talking to us as we got ready for work. The Universe brings the most interesting and wonderful energy into my life.

A Letter From Our Soldier Boy

Things here are going well. A few shots and a lot of training. My day starts around 04:45 and ends about 22:00. Today we had short range marksmanship. It was a lot of fun other than it was about 102 out.

This place is a good place to get in shape, we do PT almost every day and the rest of the time you just sweat in your armor, its like an oven.

Thank you for putting me on you blog. I'm not sure what a blog is. [Your friend] sent me a letter the other day and I sent her one back, She seems really cool.

Well this is short but its 22:30 and I should get some sleep. I will send you another E-mail or letter when I can. If you get a chance write me a letter, real mail is so much better than E-mail.

Take care,

Be sure to drop him a line or a funny card - tell him Connie sent ya!

This weekend was a handful. Saturday was Minni's first vet appointment, and she got a good bill of health and her first shots. She had to be out in the same carrier as Mister, as she didn't like being alone. Afterward, we trekked over to the Newsome/Hunter household for a visit. Their home is simply lovely and it was great to see Al again and to meet Betty and Melvin. Now Betty is my kind of girl!

Sunday, we went to Home Depot and picked up some Behr Ultra White paint and painted the upstairs bathroom. Can I just say that Behr paint is the best? One coat = done. Our bathroom is so bright and beautiful - so clean looking. We did a test swatch with the sand color I am using to sponge and it will look wonderful.

My little adventures during the weekend did a number on my back, so I ended up in bed in a Lortab induced coma on Monday. I have an appointment with my new doctor today, so hopefully she can refer me to a good ortho and possibly have surgery. I know, I am considering surgery. Pray for me!

This Friday, my friend April is coming over to help me paint the downstairs bathroom (Sarah's bathroom) in white, and then I am sponging one wall and the trim in SpongeBob Yellow. I love my daughter. Then on Sunday Lindsay and Jeff are coming over to help put in the new flooring in both bathrooms.

Next project: Our bedroom. We are doing it in rich reds and deep purples accented in gold and black. We want our room modern, sexy and romantic. ROOOOOAAWRRRRR!!

This Nimrod Pisses me Off...

And so goes another letter to the editor:

In response to David Earl Richardson, I would happily remind him that not all couples marry to have children. In addition, his response negates the work of the myriad of single parent families, regardless of their sexual orientation or circumstance.

Mr. Richardson, not all lesbians aspire to be masculine, and not all gay men aspire to be feminine. Such stereotypes are insulting and demeaning to the gay and lesbian community. Unfortunately, it also shows your ignorance on the subject.

I would further challenge you, Mr. Richardson, to cite your sources that prove that gay children come from gay parents. My parents aren’t gay, and my daughter isn’t gay, either. Maybe in a gay household, children are allowed to be who they truly are and aren’t forced to suppress their feelings due to the righteous indignation of their heterosexual parents.

My daughter is a honor roll student, involved in extra curricular activities at school and is a devout Christian. She plans on going to college to become a teacher, an honorable career. I am proud of her, regardless of her orientation. And she was raised in a gay household.

In a perfect world, every child would be welcomed into a loving home, regardless of the gender of the parents,  taught right from wrong, and to love and respect one another. At least, that is what my heterosexual parents taught me and that is what I have passed onto the next generation. Bigotry and ignorance will not be among those values.

Connie Anast
Murray, Utah

I wonder if it will get published or not... hmmm...

This weekend is shaping up nicely. I will be sponge painting the bathrooms in preparation for the new vinyl flooring we are installing next weekend. Well, Jeff and Lindsay will be helping us. I'm not that butch, thank you. I am excited to see how it will look. If I like it, I will spone our bedroom in rich reds and start that process. Yeah! Our house is becoming a home!

Up on the Soapbox

Up on the Soapbox

Since Lorene was on her soapbox today about employees who take advantage of the fact that they have children and use it to inconvenience the rest of us, I thought I would blog about one of my pet peeves in the workplace.

I am single in the eyes of my employer. Now, granted, I am protected from discrimination because I identify as lesbian. But I feel I am seriously discriminated against because of my legal marital status.

Employees who have a legal spouse and/or children are offered insurance and benefits to cover them. I do not have that option. The U shoulders the majority of the cost of those benefits. If you have children and a spouse and put them on your insurance, the U pays for it.

For example: let's say my coverage costs the U about $100 a month. I pay about $30 a month for the coverage. So, the U is paying $70 for me in the way of benefits. That's income - insentive - for me to be employed. However, if I was married with children, that premium is significantly increased - to about $250 a month, with the employee paying about $75 of that. Not to mention the ability to take sick leave for a spouse or child, funeral leave for a spouse or child, memberships to organizations, etc. But I digress...

Most employers offer a similar package to lure people to work for them. But it's highly discriminatory in the fact that if you are married with children, the employer will pay MORE money to cover them on insurance. In the above example, the employer would pay about $175 to cover a married parent vs $70 for me.

I want the same benefits as anyone else here. The only way they could make it truly fair is to pay me the difference.

I want a check for $2,100. That's what they would pay someone of the same skill set doing the same job who was legally married. Do they do a better job worthy of an additional $2,100 anually? No. Then they shouldn't be paid the additional money because of their life choices.

Refuse to offer me partner benefits? Fine. Then pay me the difference in cash. I will accept it.

DEFEATED!

DEFEATED!!

THE FEDERAL MARRIAGE AMENDMENT WAS EFFECTIVELY DEFEATED IN THE SENATE A FEW MINUTES AGO.

The vote on cloture was 48-Aye; 50-Nay.
The vote needed 60 ayes in order for a vote on the amendment to proceed.

I have faith in the Senate once more. Our Constitution is not a political toy to be pulled out during election times and I am grateful for the wisdom of the 50 Senators who saw through the thin veil of the GOP.

Now Lindi and I can run away and get married. And believe you me, we will!

I Got a Raise

I Got a Raise..

... a lovely raise, and a new toilet, and I'm eating sourdough pizza with chicken, tomatoes and artichoke hearts. Life is good today.

The Senate is voting on the Federal Marriage Amendment TOMORROW. I urge you to call your senators in Washington (Hatch and Bennett) and let them know you oppose this amendment. The more people who call and let our Senators know we oppose it, the better chance we have of communicating our desire not to have discrimination written into our Constitution.

Call 1-202-225-3121 and ask for your Senator by name. You will be transferred to their offices in Washington and ask for the aide helping with the Federal Marriage Amendment. (In Hatch's office, his name is Chris) Tell him who you are, where you live and why you oppose the Amendment.

The switchboard is very busy today, so keep trying. You may get a busy signal or it may continually ring. Don't let this deter you, let's let Capitol Hill know that our Constitution is not something to mess with!

Lindi's Birthday Party

Lindi's Surprise Birthday Party...

Was a complete blast. I couldn't blog about it before, to keep the secret, but I had told Lindi that I was planning a nice, romantic, candlelit birthday dinner for the two of us. Well, for us and 50 of our closest friends!

I had been planning this party for the last 2 months. We had sandwich trays, veggies, fresh cantaloupe and pineapple, potato, pasta and green salad and all the trimmings for a wonderful outdoor party... including 4 cases of beer. We ended up counting about 46 people who came, ate, drank and celebrated my honey's 35th birthday.

She was very surprised when she got off work and came home to the yard decorated in Steelers colors and people wearing their jersey's and t-shirts. We started the festivities at 3:30, and some people were still there at 1 am. Even my father came, and was hit on by one of my coworkers, Lindsay. Let's just say Lindsay had a little too much to drink... yes, we even formed a band... it's an all girl band playing nothing but Southern Rock - no changing of the pronouns... I am the drummer, Lindsay is the base player, April is the vocalist and we are named Cooter Pie.

There was a lot of us who were very, very drunk. And Lindi had a horrendous hangover.

I will post pictures here later today. Oh, yes, there is the gratuitous boob shot and even two straight girls kissing. Lordie, we know how to PAR-TAY! It was great to have Lorene, Dylan, Dee and Jennifer there to celebrate. Lorene and Dylan also got the added bonus of adopting Al the Siamese that I rescued from the same house we got Minni from... at least after Dylan moved the couch and Lorene talked him out.

I am pleased with how it all worked out. Jennifer, Krysta, Teinamarrie and all my friends who helped out were simply wonderful. I couldn't have done it without them!

I am at work, it's lunchtime, and I have a Crown Burger and fries. And a huge Diet Coke. I am a happy, happy girl. Those Greeks sure know how to make a pastrami burger!

How appropriate on the Saturday before Independence Day, my dearest friend Scott Grant heads off to Iraq. I am filled with emotions and fear, but extreme pride of his unrelenting devotion to our country, even in a war which is still quite questionable. Serving in Kuwait, and now Iraq, he is one of the many brave service personnel that deserves vast amounts of respect.

If you would like to drop him a line, a care package, or anything before he ships overseas, you can reach him at the following address:

Our weekend was pretty great. Lindi was able to have a 3-day weekend with us, so we had Jessie on Friday night, then Sarah had an overnight babysitting job Saturday night. Sunday we went to the Stinger's game and stayed for beautiful fireworks and Monday was relaxing, picking up a couple more cats to adopt out and a BBQ at Lindi's parents house. All in all, a pretty good weekend!

Hope your week goes by fast and we can get to the WEEKEND!! Can't wait for Lindi's birthday on Saturday. She's going to love her present!

Muslims Flock to See Messiah After Web Hoax
Thu Jun 24,11:20 AM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - Hundreds of Muslims flocked to a German hospital where an Internet site said the Messiah was being breast-fed by its resurrected mother, a hospital spokesman said Thursday.

Spokesman Burkhard Buescher said large groups of women with children were among those who had traveled across Germany and from the nearby Netherlands in the last two weeks asking porters at the Essen university clinic to let them visit the "Messiah."

"The story ended up being that there was a woman in the clinic who had given birth to the Messiah and who had died. She was later dug up and was still alive but her whole body was burned -- just her two breasts were unharmed," said Buescher.

"Allah ordered the woman to feed the child for 40 days and then die again. This crazy story was seen by people on a Turkish Internet site," he said.

On the Internet portal Turkdunya.de, chatterers discussed the story and one contributor claimed to have seen the woman.

Hospital guards had told visitors there was no such woman in the maternity clinic, and the number of visitors had dwindled since German media reported the story was an Internet hoax, Buescher said.

"But some people just wanted to believe it."

On a lighter note, I am all moved into my new office. I hate it. Back to the door, very cold, and sharing it with a boy. Who smells funny. And makes noises. Weird, odd noises. And talks to himself.

I am definately getting headphones.

CONGRATULATIONS to Dylan and Lorene on their new home. It is official, papers signed, and moving to begin! YAHOO!!!

And Congratulations to... well... ME, as we hit our DOUBLE High Goal this month and will be receiving a $300 bonus on our next paycheck. We rock the house.

HAPPY FOURTH! Go light some illegal fireworks and drink lots of beer. You know you want to.

The Mayor of Herriman is an Idiot

The Mayor of Herriman is an Idiot...

LINKS UPDATED!!

I am sure you heard about this in the SLTribune. Basically, the Don't Amend Alliance was slated to have a booth in Fort Herriman Days this weekend. We have booiths all over the state. Keep in mind, the Don't Amend campaign is not just gays and lesbians, it's a group of people, regardless of sexual orientation, who oppose amending our Constitution. We were approved, prepared to send in our deposit and at the last minute, we received a call from the Mayors office... "he said that they didn't want "our kind" of booth there."

Our Kind? OUR KIND? What kind? Political? Interesting, since he allowed politicians to circulate throughout the crowd previously. Read the article here.

Needless to say, many people, gay and straight, are pissed about this blantant discrimination. If you, too, want to voice your opinion, you can reach the Mayor at 801-446-5323 or on his website. Here is his email. Tell him that his retraction was a slap in the face to those who do not support changing our Constitution and he better be prepared to leave office when he is either elected out or asked to resign.

Happy Thursday

Happy Thursday

Well, year end and month end are over, so I finally get to relax - and move to an office. It will be nice to have some more quiet time, but I am going to miss all my coworkers who have become my friends. I guess that is what break time is all about.

Monday night, I went shopping at Kmart and picked up a tub of kitty litter - 35 lbs - and paid for it the next day. I should learn not to lift anything heavier than 10 lbs for the time being. Monday night, we had the neighbors over for dinner, and I let her open 2 of her birthday presents, both I found and purchased off of Ebay. The first is an athentically signed photo of Janet Jackson, the second is a hard to find copy of The Jazz Singer on DVD. Both of them came in the mail on Monday, and they were in exquisite condition. I framed Janet and wrapped the DVD. The DVD was released in 1999, and hasn't been rereleased and is very hard to find. Plus, it is her all time favorite movie. She LOVED both of her presents, especially Janet. Don't worry, she will have presents to open on her official birthday.

HAPPY for Lorene and Dylan and their new home. I love you two and hope your home is filled with the love, laughter and peace that you dream of.

Our plans for this weekend are simple: I am sleeping and Sarah is babysitting, and the whole family is going to see the Stingers game and fireworks on Sunday night. It will be a blast, I am sure.

Lindi also had her month end, plus her computer issues, so Tuesday night, she worked until 3 am, came home and slept until 10, then went back to work until 5. This morning, she had to be up at 3am to finish month end and open the store. Poor sweetheart. I love how dedicated she is to her work. I am so proud of her.

Speaking of my sweetheart, in 9 days, we will have been together for 2 years. I can't remember what my life was like before her. Now, that's not entirely true, I remember what it was like, and because I can, I know how so blessed I am to have her a part of it.

Drink of the day: Diet Coke and White Cheddar Popcorn
