In discussing the "Did Bush Lie" to get us to war with Iraq, Rosemary posted this comment. It actually makes sense. Your take?
"That is the crux of my problem with the "Bush Lied" meme.
All we have been hearing for 12 years and 2 administrations (Dem & Repub) is that Saddam has WMDs.
Everyone has said it. There are hundreds of quotes from dozens of high level government people and both houses of Congress. They have all said it. Over and over...
So I don't understand your position that Bush lied and tricked others into lying?
In 1998, Congress and the Clinton Administration made "regime change in Iraq" official policy.
All those that are now screaming Bush lied, were singing a much different tune when Clinton was the boss.
Bush certainly couldn't get Clinton to lie for him, could he?
July 2003, Clinton was on Larry King
"I think the main thing I want to say to you is, people can quarrel with whether we should have more troops in Afghanistan or internationalize Iraq or whatever, but it is incontestable that on the day I left office, there were unaccounted for stocks of biological and chemical weapons. We might have destroyed them in '98. We tried to, but we sure as heck didn't know it because we never got to go back in there. "
Just to be clear: Bill Clinton said, "It is incontestable that on the day I left office, there were unaccounted-for stocks of biological and chemical weapons" in Iraq.
I have no proof that Clinton lied. But if Clinton and his administration believed that, then that is what they told the Bush admin.
Perhaps, the information was wrong. IMHO, being wrong is much different than being a liar."
