THE FEDERAL MARRIAGE AMENDMENT WAS EFFECTIVELY DEFEATED IN THE SENATE A FEW MINUTES AGO.

The vote on cloture was 48-Aye; 50-Nay.
The vote needed 60 ayes in order for a vote on the amendment to proceed.

I have faith in the Senate once more. Our Constitution is not a political toy to be pulled out during election times and I am grateful for the wisdom of the 50 Senators who saw through the thin veil of the GOP.

Now Lindi and I can run away and get married. And believe you me, we will!
